Gas-for-Water addresses petroleum's value through trade. The project began in Lake Mead, Nevada during the Southwest's recent drought. It imagines the plight of “meadmaids,” whose livelihood is dependent on the lake, formed in 1936 when the Hoover Dam was completed. Set in a dystopian future where gas is plentiful but water is scarce, the meadmaids exchange one for the other as they journey back to the lake and replenish its holdings. The exchange is choreographed, the score of which is displayed, along with a hand-drawn map of oil extraction sites in the LA region.
